As a part of today’s Nintendo Direct livestream, Spike Chunsoft has revealed an extended trailer for the upcoming mystery adventure Master Detective Archives: RainCode. Showcasing key investigation mechanics and various gameplay features, the extended trailer paints a detailed picture of RainCode, which launches exclusively for Nintendo Switch worldwide on June 30 this year.

In Master Detective Archives: RainCode, players will don the neo-noir trench coat of Yuma Kokohead, a trainee detective with the World Detective Organization. Accompanied by the lingering spirit Shinigami, players as Yuma will snoop in and sleuth around the game’s rainy setting of Kanai Ward. As the trailer explains, the city has been wracked with bizarre mysteries as late, mysteries that Yuma will need more than just a magnifying glass to solve.

Master Detectives of the World Detective Organization will drop in and out at various points throughout the story, each bringing a unique supernatural ability that can aid Yuma in his investigations. One detective, for example, has heightened auditory capacities that can detect whispers and heartbeats – while another has the power of Postcognition, which allows them to see into the past. Once sufficient evidence has been compiled, a Mystery Labyrinth will unlock, and therein the truth will be revealed, the culprit exposed.

In the latter half of last year, Spike Chunsoft unveiled a collector’s edition of Master Detective Archives: RainCode, flourishingly titled the “Mysteriful Limited Edition”. Priced at 109.99USD, the Mysteriful Limited Edition of RainCode boasts an exclusive steelbook, “The Book Of Death” artbook featuring notes from background artist Shimadrill, a 6.5″ Shinigami plush, a “Noise of Neon” original soundtrack CD, and the physical game for the Nintendo Switch, all wrapped up in an exclusive outer box.

With art direction by Danganronpa character designer Rui Komatsuzaki, music by Danganronpa composer Masafumi Takada, and a scenario by Danganronpa mastermind Kazutaka Kodaka, many fans have been treating Master Detective Archives: RainCode as a spiritual successor to the Danganronpa franchise. Today’s extended trailer, however, has demonstrated that the game will be very much its own unique experience.
