Midnight Suns: Best Doctor Strange Build

0

Filled to the brim with amazing superhero abilities, epic turn-based fights, and a unique story set in the Marvel Universe, Midnight Suns delivers on a great new game in the genre. With its own fantastic original story, Midnight Suns gives players the chance to control some of their favorite heroes in battle. Iconic characters like Captain Marvel, Scarlet Witch, and Spider-Man are just a few of the many playable characters in the game. Among the roster is the Sorcerer Supreme himself, Doctor Strange, who steps in as the best pure support character in the game. With the abilities to boost the base damage of cards, conceal his allies in magic vapor, and increase Heroism points, Doctor Strange uses his spells and tomes to support his damage-heavy teammates and can deal it out when needed too.

Due to his low HP and Resilience though, using the doctor in battle isn’t the easiest thing to do as he is likely to get pummeled if ever focused by the enemy. There is a delicate balance to getting Doctor Strange to beef up his allies while surviving a battle at the same time. Also, because he lacks any direct heals, as a support Steven Strange invites a more risk-vs-reward style of gameplay where, ideally, his high DPS allies can wipe out waves before suffering too much damage or corruption. Figuring out Doctor Strange’s build isn’t especially easy or obvious though, but once it’s done right the Sorcerer Support Supreme can make for some bombastic and magical victories on the battlefield.

How This Doctor Strange Build Works

Marvel's Midnight Suns doctor strange

Generally the best pure support character in the game, Doctor Strange works best when strengthening the attacks of his allies while giving the team lots of Heroism to spend. Players should be careful though as Strange’s low health and defensive stats can make him an easy target on the battlefield. As long as he is alive, Doctor Strange supports a risk-vs-reward strategy where players can use his cards to bide time to build up more offense or give instant damage and ability boost. Though he has some decent damage to add with cards like Bolt of Balthakk and Seven Suns of Cinnibus, Steven Strange’s best abilities are purely support-orientated. Without any direct heals, heroes will have to rely on their own defensive capabilities but Doctor Strange is no slouch in adding support there either.

The doctor has his own defensive abilities like Shield of the Seraphim, which gives every teammate Resist, and Vapors of Valtorr, which Conceals an ally for a turn making them un-targetable by enemies. Also, with some clever combinations, the Doctor’s build can lead to some incredible team-ups. For example, Blessing of the Vishanti, which gives added damage to cards in players’ hands, can be paired with any damage card. So not only can it boost big Heroic cards, like Ghost Rider’s Penance Stare, but it can give a huge increase to any chain attack card. That means Blade, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Nico, and Iron Man all can turn smaller damage chain attacks into battlefield-clearing abilities. Astral Meditation may seem like a curious choice, but this card facilitates Strange’s lack of healing pretty well. Try to bring at least one healing combat item into battle with Strange and through Astral Meditation, the strike team will have added survivability.

Best Doctor Strange Team-Ups

To put it plainly, Doctor Strange is the best support in the game. This is because though his kit is focused on adding damage and giving teammates sneaky ways of surviving, Strange works best when bolstering the abilities and strengths of his allies on the battlefield. His main weakness is his lack of personal survivability and this speaks to how players might choose to place him in certain strike teams. In other words, who Strange is placed with greatly changes the nature of how his play will support and where to focus energy. For example, Doctor Strange should always be placed in a support-class spot, but choosing what to pair him with can differ.

As a support, Strange might team up with a healer and a tank, a healer and an attacker, or even two attackers with no heals and no tank. If Strange is the only support on a team, focusing on defensive abilities like Vapors of Valtorr and Shield of Seraphim is suggested. However, if he’s paired up with a tank and a healer, like Captain America and Hunter for example, the team will have less damage but incredible survivability. For the best fit, put Strange into a traditional team with a tank and damage character. Strike teams with attackers like Captain Marvel, Iron Man, Spider-Man, Ghost Rider, and Blade go great with tanks like Wolverine, Captain America, and Hulk.
