Fuji TV’s Tosochu game show, known as Run for the Money in English, has had fans watching celebrity participants attempt to outrun Hunters since 2004. The premise of the show is easy in theory: outrun and outmaneuver the hunters in black to make it to the cash prize at the end of the 200-minute chase. However, it’s not as easy as it seems. Those Hunters look like they’re in pretty good shape and determined to disqualify contestants.
Along with a teaser trailer, an announcement has been made that an anime based on the popular game show will be airing in the spring of 2023. Although not much is known about this soon-to-premiere anime, subtitled The Great Mission, the premise remains the same: contestants will do whatever it takes to outrun the Hunters.
The show becomes comical at times as the celebrities get desperate to escape, with the cash prize becoming higher the longer they are able to stay on the run. Netflix released a season of the show in 2022 that is essentially the same as the beloved Japanese show. It starts with 20 Hunters, but that number can be reduced. Once three people are caught and disqualified, an elimination button is added. If any of the remaining contestants can find and push the button without being caught, the number of Hunters is reduced to five.
Sound Euphonium Theatrical Anime Releases 2023
Netflix’s release of the show first aired on November 15. It featured celebrities such as SHINee’s k-pop idol Choi Min-ho, the Burmese singer and J-pop idol Win Morisaki, singer and actor Hayato Sano, actor and screenwriter Jiro Sato, actor and model Hiraki Kuroki, comedian Asei, Japanese professional footballer Yoshito Okuboand, and many more. A total of 29 contestants compete against eachother to win the cash prize in a 0.26km area of Huis Ten Beach.
The first iteration of the show is not easily available to stream, but Netflix has all four episodes of their original release available to watch on its platform. Although it has not yet been officially announced where The Great Mission will be airing, Crunchyroll announced the release of the show on December 31.
