SawanoHiroyuki on board as main composer

Following the broadcast of Fate/Strange Fake’s new year’s special episode, the series was announced to have a new TV anime in Summer 2023 to adapt the main story.

The theme song will be “Fakeit” by SawanoHiroyuki [nZk], the composer for many popular animes such as Attack on Titan and The Seven Deadly Sins, and is also the one responsible for the music of this work. Sawano comments that he is happy that Ms Laco – the vocalist for past works like Promare – has lent her voice as a guest in Fate/Strange Fake, as it helped in expanding on the energy and emotional substance of the work.

Fate/Strange Fake – a light novel series written by Baccano! and Durarara!! author Ryōgo Narita – tells the story of a Holy Grail war between heroes of history similar to the one in the parent work Fate/Stay Night. More specifically, it can be considered the prequel story of the heroic character Gilgamesh, who has appeared in many different Fate works, and his complicated past with Enkidu as shown in the new year special. The story is inspired by the real Epic of Gilgamesh, and elaborates on how the tragic loss of his friend inspired Gilgamesh to seek godly immortality both in the original epic and the anime.

In other news, another work in the Type Moon verse that encompasses Fate works and other connected series has gained immense popularity in the gaming medium. Witch On The Holy Night, the visual novel recently released in December on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, has achieved a milestone of 110,000 units sold in less than a week since release. The game is expected to have a movie release next year, and the franchise creator Kinoku Nasu teased in a recent interview that he is seriously considering making the sequel, although it might end up as an anime and not a visual novel.

The author of Fate/Strange Fake has also tweeted that the anime special corresponds to the first volume of the original light novel, so there is no risk of spoilers for those who want to check it out. The series currently has seven main volumes, with an eighth volume coming next year, but there have been no announcements of an English release date as of yet.
