One of the greatest video games ever made, Skyrim, is packed to the brim with rare and unique items. In fact, many would argue that this is exactly what makes the game so enticing: the ever-evolving quest to locate that next hidden piece of loot. It truly feels like no matter how much you play, there is always something new to discover!
Of course, just because some gear is rare, does not mean that it is actually valuable though. In this list, we will go over some of the rarest items in all of Skyrim! And, while we’re at it, rank them by sheer power.
10/10 Fur-Trimmed Cloak
The Fur-Trimmed Cloak is an exquisite, though relatively un-useful, cloak worn only by nobility. However, because Jarl’s are labeled “important” NPC’s and are thus un-killable, the cloak is mostly unattainable.
However, as with most things in Skyrim, there is a cheeky workaround to acquire this article of clothing! By completing the Dark Brotherhood questline, Bryling, the Thane of Solitude, will lose this status of player protection. And, well, you know what to do from there.
9/10 Combat Fork
Don’t laugh, this is serious! There are a few locations where the comically large combat fork can be located, and all of them are a hassle to obtain. Especially because they look absolutely identical to the hundreds and hundreds of forks scattered around Skyrim until picked up!
These hilarious weapons deal a frightening one point of damage per hit, making them borderline useless. But hey, at least they are still more useful than an actual fork!
8/10 Bow Of The Hunt
It’s a real shame hunting isn’t more important in Skyrim, because if it was, this weapon’s utility would be unparalleled! Finding the Bow of the Hunt isn’t too difficult to find, requiring only a quick visit to the altar at Clearspring Tarn.
However, what makes the bow so enticing is its one-of-a-kind enchantment, which deals an extra 20 damage to animals! The bow also can’t be disenchanted, meaning that the weapon is quite literally the only place to find said enchantment! So while not exactly useful, the Bow of the Hunt certainly is rare!
7/10 Giant’s Club
Many Skyrim fans will be more than familiar with this classic story. The Giants in Skyrim are famous for their hilarious interactions with players, causing them to ragdoll at hundreds of miles per hour into the stratosphere! It is truly a hilarious sight, one which is caused primarily by the Giant’s massive club.
Not surprisingly, it was disappointing to many players when they discovered that after defeating a Giant, you are unable to pick up their club! However, shortly after the launch of Skyrim, a secret was discovered. Hidden amongst the clutter of the camp in Tumble Arch Pass is an equippable Giant’s club! While the player can’t actually wield the weapon, its followers sure can, and they will wreak pure havocwhen they do!
6/10 Notched Pickaxe
A clever edition that any block-building fan would recognize, the Notched Pickaxe, is much more exciting than it is powerful. This mining tool is a hilarious reference to the creator of the most popular game of all time, Minecraft. It is painful to say though, that its low spot on this list is well deserved.
The pickaxe is located at the peak of the Throat of The World, the tallest mountain in Skyrim. Climbing to the peak requires some serious skill, but shouldn’t be too difficult with the assistance of a trusty horse! It’s just a shame though that this awesome Easter egg doesn’t do more beside give the user +5 Smithing.
5/10 Double Distilled Skooma
At this point, Skooma has become somewhat of a meme among Elder Scrolls fans, turning it into an item that virtually anyone who’s played Skyrim is aware of. This is funny because Skooma is actually quite rare, being found only through Khajiit traders or very rarely in dungeons!
However, one specific bottle of Skooma transcends all others: the Double Distilled Skooma. In Vanilla Skyrim, there is only a single bottle of Skooma. It can be obtained by speaking to Stands-In-Shallows (yes, that’s his real name) and following the quest markers! This particular bottle will regenerate 50 stamina, double that of standard Skooma.
4/10 Exquisite Sapphire
This highly valuable gem is literally a one-of-a kind in Skyrim, especially if you don’t just decide to clip through solid objects for your own convenience! By completing the “Glover’s Letter” questline, players can receive the key to the exquisite sapphire: Glover’s basement
The Exquisite Sapphire is highly valuable for two reasons. For one, it is the only item in Skyrim that is worth even close to 500 gold, while still only weighing 0.1 lbs! Second, the sapphire will respawn every few days, making it both an easy and reliable way to make money.
3/10 Auriel’s Shield
Ah, finally! An item that is as powerful as it is rare. Auriel’s Shield is only available in the Dawngaurd DLC, but even if you have the expansion, you most likely have never come across this shield anyway. In the ruins of the Forgotten Vale, a single enemy Falmer will drop this shield when killed.
Using this shield is simple: every time an attack is blocked with Auriel’s Shield, the attack is stored as energy. All of this stored energy can be released through a shield bash, which will easily obliterate anything in its destructive wake!
2/10 Keening
As silly as the name may sound, this Morrowind Alumni is actually pretty deadly. Finding this bulky blade is a real pain, as it can typically only be picked up at the very tale end of Arniel Glade’s quest. However, skilled players can actually find the blade before activating the quest, but Keening will in turn drain 5 points of Health, Magicka, and Stamina.
Keening is highly sought after by most players, thanks to its powerhouse of enchantment. Upon hitting an enemy with the weapon, said opponent will suffer a loss of 10 points to all 3 physical stats! Pair this with dagger-specific perks and one-handed skills for maximum efficiency!
1/10 Miraak
None of the masks in Skyrim are easy to obtain, but Miraak is perhaps the most difficult of them all to acquire! Completion of the entire main “Dawnguard” campaign is required, followed by a lengthy fight with another Dragonborn.
As hard as this item is to acquire, the reward is definitely worth it! A massive 40-70 Magicka buff is given to the player, making it one of the greatest pieces of armor in the entire game for Mages.
