How To Beat The Corpse Eater
Quick Links
God of War Ragnarok is finally in the hands of the players for everyone to enjoy. It is a triumphant sequel that released to the sound of beautiful reviews and fantastic sales. Such achievements have been well-earned, as the game has an incredible amount of memorable characters, amazing locations, and bosses that strike a perfect balance between challenging and fun.
If you’re looking to get your fill of bosses, look no further than the optional content within Vanaheim. The place is crawling with bosses just waiting for you to take them down — or at least give them a challenge in combat. One such boss is a dragon known as The Corpse Eater. If you’ve come here looking for tips and tricks to take down The Corpse Eater, you’re in the right place.
Be Quick & Decisive
This can be a deadly foe. Fortunately, many of its attacks will give you an opportunity to strike back, and if you’re quick enough, you can keep this dragon on its heels before it can ever do much damage to you.
Take It Out Of The Sky
The Corpse Eater will occasionally take flight. In these moments, you have to be careful. It can fly by you shooting its ice beam, which you’ll want to avoid. It can also swoop down to make a grab attack, which you can parry. The best way to handle The Corpse Eater in flight is to throw the Draupnir Spear or the Leviathan Axe at it. Once you hit it, the dragon will crash to the ground, leaving you a big window to deal great amounts of damage to it before it regains its footing.
Use Your Rage Wisely
If you find yourself a little low on health, maybe around half, consider using your Spartan Rage if you have it available. Not only will it allow you to beat up the dragon, but you’ll also regain some health as part of the attack. This is a good way to put some hurt on your foe while mending your wounds.
Turn The Tables
Sometimes The Corpse Eater will do a short hop and a quick yellow ringed grab against you. In this case, it’s going to grab you and take you into the sky. This is a mistake on the part of the dragon, as the game will prompt you to counterattack by slashing at its feet with R1.
Know Your Enemy’s Best Attacks
This dragon has a number of tricks up its sleeve, so we’ll go over its most prevalent attacks. This should help you avoid the worst of its attacks and the extreme damage it can dish out.
Dodge The Red Ringed Charge
When you see a red ring, that’s an indicator that you won’t be able to block or parry the upcoming attack. In this case, you’ll want to dodge out of the way. When you see the red ring and the dragon charge, dodge out of the way and then pop back up to attack the dragon from behind.
Dodge The Ice Beam
The Corpse Eater’s throat will glow when it’s about to use an ice beam against you. The best move here is to dodge out of the way of it. Like many of The Corpse Eater’s attacks, the ice beam can hit you with the frost status effect, leaving you slowed and vulnerable.
Parry Or Dodge Its Grab Attacks
The Corpse Eater will sometimes drop from the sky in an attempt to grab you. If this happens, you can parry it because it’s an attack with a yellow ring. Your other option is to try and dodge it entirely.
Parry The Yellow Ringed Bite
When The Corpse Eater moves in to bite you, your best option is to time your block so you parry away the bite. This will also leave you a small window to counterattack.
Dodge The Yellow Ringed Ice Shards
The Corpse Eater will occasionally let loose with group of ice shards from its mouth. Your best move is to avoid these because they’re easy to roll away from, but you can also go for the parry if you’re feeling confident.
Ending The Fight
Once you’ve put enough hurt on the dragon, you’ll be prompted to hit R3 and trigger the fight’s takedown, which comes with a small quick time event.
