How To Evolve Scyther Into Scizor
Introduced all the way back in Generation 2, Scizor is an iconic steel type that still holds its own in battle to this day. With a great ability in Technician, a sky-high base Attack stat, and a fun move pool at its disposal, it’s just a great Pokemon. Its one main drawback is its typing, Bug/Steel, which leaves it with a brutal quadruple weakness to Fire-type damage.
Whether you’re building a competitive team or just trying to get through the single-player game, Scizor is a solid bet. However, the method for evolving Scyther into Scizor isn’t immediately obvious. Fear not, intrepid trainer—our guide covers everything you need to know, from catching Scyther to evolving it. Let’s get started!
How To Catch Scyther
Scyther has a few different regions in Paldea that it calls home. According to the Pokedex, it lives “near water” and in “bamboo groves”. Early in the game, you can check ponds around South Province (Area Four) to find it. There’s also a huge section of land in Northwestern Paldea, around Casseroya Lake, where Scyther can be found. Finally, there’s a small grove in Northeastern Paldea where lots of high-level Pokemon can be found, including Scyther. We’ve included a picture of its habitats (above).
Scyther has a catch rate of 45. Pokemon with lower catch rates are harder to catch (Caterpie & Pidgey have a CR of 255, while most Legendary Pokemon have a CR of just 3). Don’t be dismayed if you have trouble catching it—try status ailments like Paralysis or Sleep, or try using better Pokeballs.
How To Evolve Scyther Into Scizor
Scyther evolves when traded while holding a Metal Coat. Acquiring a Metal Coat is the easy part—simply go to Delibird Presents, tab over to battle items, and look around until you find it. It costs 3,000 Pokédollars. Once you have it, equip the Metal Coat on Scyther as a held item.
Arguably the harder part, depending on your situation, is trading. If you happen to have a friend with a Switch and a copy of Pokemon Scarlet or Violet, you can bug them for assistance. Trade Scyther to them, and it will evolve. You’ll then have to get them to trade it back. If you do not have a friend to trade with, unfortunately, we can’t help you with that! You could try looking for assistance in an online Pokemon community—Reddit and Discord might be helpful here.
