Ragnarok sets a franchise record, selling 5.1 million copies in its debut week.
According to a recent tweet from the official PlayStation account, Santa Monica Studios’ recently released title, God of War Ragnarok, has become the fastest-selling first-party launch in PlayStation history.
“Congratulations to Sony Santa Monica for making God of War Ragnarok the fastest-selling first party launch game in PlayStation history”, reads the official announcement. An image is then displayed below the announcement from PlayStation, confirming that Ragnarok sold an astonishing 5.1 million copies in its debut week, making it a record-breaking release for the God of War franchise.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Ragnarok had become the fastest-selling game in the series’ history within the United Kingdom, and now officially holds the PlayStation record for the fastest-selling first party launch. The prestigious PlayStation award was previously held by Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us: Part II.
God of War Ragnarok was released exclusively for the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on November 9th, and quickly became one of the most talked about games of the year. The official DualShockers review called Ragnarok a “masterpiece of a sequel and a new crown jewel for Playstation”, awarding the title a perfect 10 out of 10 score. As of writing, Ragnarok sits at 94% on Metacritic, based on 135 critic reviews for the PlayStation 5 version of the game.
In other God of War Ragnarok news, Santa Monica released a brand new patch in the early hours of this morning, bringing the game to version 2.04 with some minor bug fixes and adjustments. According to the official patch notes, the latest patch fixes a case where some players were unable to change the difficulty level whilst in-game. The update, which is now live on both PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, also fixed a rare crash that could occur in the weapons menu.
God of War Ragnarok is now available for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5.
