God of War Ragnarok: How To Beat Bjorn
God of War Ragnarok has arrived with a thunderclap and a cast of characters you’ll never forget. You’ll find a lot to love in this entry, from the wonderfully realized world to the small details placed into every nook and cranny. But that’s not all. This game comes with a lineup up boss fights you won’t soon forget, and you’re introduced to some big ones from the very start.
When Kratos goes looking for Atreus during Fimbulwinter, it becomes clear that there’s some kind of enormous bear roaming the woods Kratos and Atreus live in. Naturally, Kratos and the bear, Bjorn, come head-to-head in a wild and brutal boss fight. If you find yourself having trouble with this particular boss, you’ve come to the right place. We’ll go over all the tips and tricks for taking down this majestic beast.
Brawling With Bjorn
If you go in just swinging the Leviathan Axe like crazy, Bjorn is likely to pick you up and swing you around quite a bit. This bear has some wild grabs and a tendency to bite before tossing you away. You might be able to survive a few of these interactions (depending on your game’s difficulty), but enough of them will put you on your back, and you’ll have to start the fight all over again.
Parrying
It is possible to parry some of Bjorn’s swipes, and doing so will allow you to immediately follow up with a swing of your axe. If you get the timing down, you can find a good rhythm to parry, swing, parry, and swing again. Once again, timing is crucial here, because those swipes will take out a significant portion of your health. If you can’t quite get the timing down, it’s best to evade and pick your strikes in between sets of the bear’s swings.
Yellow Rings
The attacks with yellow rings are going to break your block and leave you vulnerable to another attack. In these cases, you’ll most often want to move out of the way instead of relying on your shield to get the job done. If you absolutely can’t get out of the way, put up the shield because it’s going to be better than nothing.
Red Rings
Attacks with red rings are going to go right through your defenses, which means you absolutely want to dodge away from these attacks. In this fight, the red-ringed attacks are pretty easy to see coming and should give you some time to get out of the way. Don’t bother with the shield at all from these attacks, as Bjorn will go right through it.
Spartan Rage
You should have the opportunity to use Spartan Rage during this fight, and you’ll want to make the most of it. Not only do you want to throw Bjorn around with Kratos’ amazing strength, you’ll want to take advantage of the healing Spartan Rage provides with every hit. Timing your Spartan Rage can be helpful in many situations throughout the game where you want to deal some damage while also recovering a bit of health.
