It’s dangerous to go out on your own in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord. Thankfully, you can have other companions and nobles join your merry band. Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord guide – How to dismiss companions
Companions in Mount & Blade II: Bannerlord offer several functions. These include having a stalwart fighter in your squad, giving bonuses for your entire party, being assigned as governors of a settlement, and leading their own armies to battle. Still, if you think they’re more trouble than they’re worth or if you want to keep them protected, there are a couple of ways to leave them behind.
Leave them in a settlement
One option is to leave them behind in a settlement. Visit a location on the map and check the upper-right section of the panel. You should see notable NPCs, as well as a plus (+) sign. If you click on this, you can have your companion stay there for the time being. Do keep in mind that they’ll still count toward your unit cap.
Kick them out of your clan
The other method is to boot them out for good. To do this, open the Clan menu by pressing the “L” key. You should see your companion’s portrait, as well as a dialogue icon in the middle of the screen.
If you click on this, your view will change as though you’re talking to that character in first-person. Select “I no longer have need of your services,” followed by any of the valid reasons. You may also cancel this decision by picking the option at the bottom, and your “pal” will think that you’re just joking around.
However, it’s important to note that companions dismissed in this manner will be tagged as “lost” or “dead.” You can even confirm this when checking the encyclopedia. There might be a chance that they’d reappear later on in some random tavern, though that’s not certain.
