Well-known Battlefield 2042 dataminer Temporyal tweeted a new image today, revealing the next season of the game will be called Escalation. Unfortunately, the source didn’t share anything further about the new season and its content.

Temporyal has already leaked much stuff about Battlefield 2042, most of which turned out to be true at the end of the day. Prior to leaking the new season’s name, Temporyal mentioned the existence of some files in previous versions that refers to new vehicles such as bikes, which could be one of the main additions to Season 3.

The release date for the next season is yet to be announced, but we do know that it will be coming out in December 2022. Season 3 is pretty important for Battlefield fans as the game is supposed to finally bring back the series’ core class-based system, where the current specialist will be assigned to four major classes. This change might become available in 2023 in the midst of Season 3.

Other than that, you can expect a new map and a new specialist similar to previous seasons as well as new weapons both for Battlefield 2042 and the Portal mode.

An official announcement for Season 3 is expected to be made later this month as we get closer to December 2022. DICE has not revealed yet how long the studio will keep supporting Battlefield 2042 with new content, but the last two seasons were not successful enough to convince Battlefield 1 and Battlefield V players to come and join Battlefield 2042 as the game’s concurrent Steam players’ data doesn’t look good.

A few months earlier, Electronic Arts revealed that a new studio led by Marcus Lehto is working on a story-driven campaign for Battlefield, but there is no clue on whether it would serve as an expansion for Battlefield 2042 or become a standalone game with dedicated multiplayer mode.

Despite its poor numbers on the number of active players, EA has not added Battlefield 2042 to its EA Play subscription service so far. Probably EA Play and Game Pass could significantly increase the player base of the game.
