The highly-praised feature from the last two World Cups is not returning.
FIFA 23 Ultimate Team won’t be receiving a dedicated mode for the 2022 World Cup, as it did in FIFA 14 and FIFA 18.
This information originally came courtesy of FUT Sheriff, a very reliable FIFA leaker. “There will be no World Cup mode INSIDE FUT. There will be special cards and themed content, like a promo, but no mode. We will receive TIME LIMITED cards from the players in World Cup and we will use them to do Objectives and SBC’s [squad building challenges] based on WC” the account tweeted.
It was later confirmed by a trailer released by EA, confirming there would be no standalone World Cup mode within Ultimate Team.
During the last two World Cups, both respective FIFA games had a dedicated mode within Ultimate Team that allowed players to build new squads based on the competing nations. Packs bought in these dedicated game modes would unlock packs in the regular Ultimate Team mode.
There will be “time-limited” players that will be removed from your account following the conclusion of the World Cup, as well as permanent star player cards that will remain in your account following the tournament.
This is sure to come as a disappointment to those who were looking forward to a full-fledged World Cup mode as in previous years. The inclusion of this event had been highly-praised in the past and why EA has decided not to include it this year is unknown.
As for the hero cards, EA recently teamed up with Marvel to illustrate hero cards for the 2022 World Cup. These include players who have had legendary international careers for their nations like Ji-Sung Park, Landon Donovan and Yaya Touré.
