Overwatch 2 Reaches 25 Million Players Within 10 Days Of Release
While the initial launch of the first-person PVP shooter Overwatch 2 wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows, it seems the bumpy phase was short-lived, and Activision-Blizzard was finally able to gain a new footing thanks to the dedication of the player base. According to a recent tweet, the game was able to accumulate more than 25 million players from around the world in just 10 days, and now Activision-Blizzard would like to return the favor to players.
In a press release that accompanied the news, Overwatch 2 has issued a thank you for all the players in the form of new cosmetics and double experience weekends. Any time a player logs into the game between October 25th and December 6th (the end of season one) they will receive an all-new Cursed Captain Reaper Legendary Skin, in addition to a Health Pack Weapon Charm. Double-match XP sessions will also be held during the following times:
- Starting October 21 at 11:00 a.m. PT, ending October 24 at 11:00 a.m. PT
- Starting October 28 at 11:00 a.m. PT, ending October 31 at 11:00 a.m. PT
- Starting November 24 at 11:00 a.m. PT, ending November 28 at 11:00 a.m. PT
In other Overwatch 2 news, the recent addition of Kiriko has been a hit with fans and become a popular pick in matches. Her ultimate ability, Kitsune Rush, summons a fox spirit that gives an instant buff in movement, attack speed, and cooldowns of allies that follow its path. Kiriko’s ability has reportedly been used 2 million times so far in the first week alone, as Blizzard has revealed.
The press report reiterates that this is just the first step in a bright future ahead, which is sure to include many seasonal updates, along with new heroes, maps, game modes, and cosmetics. The much anticipated PvE mode is also hinted to be in the works and is rumored to be releasing sometime next year.
