How to maximize your primogems

0

If you spend enough time in Genshin Impact, you’ll inevitably want to strengthen your roster of playable characters or purchase items from the in-game shop. By purchasing Primogems, the premium currency created by Mihoyo for players to use on Genshin Impact’s in-game shop, players have the chance to roll for new characters and weapons that can strengthen their build or allow them the opportunity to play as their favorite characters.

As you would expect for a free-to-play game like this, spending money to buy Primogems is the primary method for players to earn this currency. However, it is possible to play the entirety of the game without spending a single penny, and the game offers a generous amount of this precious currency for those who maximize every tool at your disposal to earn as much as possible.

Here, we’ll roll through all the ways in which you can earn this limited in-game currency and what you can do to maximize your Primogems in Genshin Impact.

Redeemable Codes for Primogems (and more!)

One of the simplest ways of earning Primogems in Genshin Impact is also one of the easiest to overlook for many players. Every month, through various online promotional campaigns and on Twitter, developer Mihoyo will release a limited number of online codes that players can redeem for free in-game items to assist them on their quest. Sometimes, these codes will also offer free Primogems.

Scouring the internet and social media is one way of finding the codes you can redeem (be sure to take note of their expiry date and collect your rewards before it’s too late!). If this is too much like hard work, we’ve also collected together all the currently-active codes you can redeem and their in-game rewards.

Take Advantage of HoYoLaB

Another easy-to-overlook external method of earning Primogems for Genshin Impact is through the HoYoLaB app. Available as an app on mobile devices as well as through your browser, players can log into their account in order to access what is essentially a social media service dedicated to all games created by Mihoyo. As well as a social media feed showcasing fans posting cosplays and artwork, it’s possible to take part in competitions for exclusive prizes.

Players can also utilize the in-app check-in service. Doing so offers daily rewards players can then claim from their in-game mail. Prizes include useful items for your journey like Mora, food, XP and, on some days, Primogems. This assistance in leveling up your in-game characters and earning Primogems is easy to overlook, but adds up to a substantial reward over time.

Daily Commissions

In order to maximize your Primogems, we recommend that you complete your Daily Commissions. These are simple daily tasks that shouldn’t take more than a few minutes per commission to complete, yet doing so can earn up to 60 Primogems per day. Over the course of a month that’s 1800 Primogems, enough for multiple rolls on the in-game gacha that players can use immediately (or save for when a banner featuring their favorite character becomes available).

Achievements

Similar to your daily commissions, achievements are bonus tasks separate from main and side story quests that allow players to earn small amounts of bonus Primogems upon completion. Sometimes these achievements are tied to main story quests and merely serve as bonus rewards on top of those offered for the completion of the quest itself, but many are designed to encourage players to find or try everything this vast world has to offer.

Some of these are simple quests, asking you to blow seeds off of a Dandelion or open a certain number of chests on each island. These will often only earn you about 5-20 Primogems each, but with literally hundreds of Achievements on offer and their relative ease to complete in many circumstances, they’re a simple and sustained way of cumulating a surprising number of Primogems over a longer period of engagement.

Blessing of the Welkin Moon/Battle Pass

Both Blessing of the Welken Moon and the in-game Battle Pass require players to open their wallet to spend real-world money, something not everyone will be comfortable with. However, for those who play the game regularly, these offer the best value-for-money when it comes to Primogems without breaking the bank on buying Crystals outright.

Blessing of the Welken Moon essentially offers an in-game login bonus for playing the game daily. This instantly offers players 300 Crystals for use in the in-game shop or to be converted into Primogems, with an additional 90 Primogems offered every day the player logs in for the next 30 days. For players who login daily over the following month, they can earn 2700 Primogems for a cost of $5. For those dedicated players who can max out the Battle Pass, paying for the premium tier can not only offer a range of character-boosting items and weapons, but free Wishes and 680 Primogems.

Provided you can put in the effort, the value of both of these in-game purchases is higher than buying Crystals and Primogems outright.

Explore the Vast World of Teyvat for Every Chest

Hundreds of chests are hidden throughout Teyvat, to the point that you can still find new chests you never knew you missed after hundreds of hours of playtime. Every chest offers free Primogems alongside whatever goodies are hidden inside, increasing in quantity depending on the value of the chest itself. Make sure to search every nook and cranny, and you never know what you’ll find!

Remember Your In-Game Mail

The in-game mail is a surprisingly-simple option to forget even if you’re a long-term player, but is always worth checking every once in a while for whatever rewards and messages the game has sent to your inbox. As well as being the place to claim your HoYoLaB check-in bonus, character birthdays and maintenance downtime is often compensated for with items, in-character messages from your favorite characters, and Primogems. Make sure to claim them all using the Claim All button!

Special Events

Story quests are the most bountiful method for earning Primogems in Genshin Impact, but what if you’ve completed every quest? That’s where limited-time special events come in. These timed events not only offer stories that expand upon the world of Teyvat, they often offer very generous rewards of Primogems for those who complete them.

Even if you can’t play daily, completing the events will provide generous rewards to those who put in the effort. The Perilous Trial limited-time event in the 2.7 Patch offers players up to 810 Primogems if they complete everything it has to offer! Taking part in every event is a good way of racking up Primogems even if there’s no new story content on the horizon for you quite yet.

Play the game!

It may seem obvious, but one of the best (and most satisfying) ways to earn Primogems is simply to play the game! Story Quests, events, and more offer a large amount of Primogems. Unless you feel compelled to own every character, can allow you to progress and have fun without spending a single penny. The less you play the game, the fewer Primogems you will have to spend.

Explore those caves! Play those sidequests! Open that chest in the distance! Finish your Adventure Handbook Investigations! And most of all, have fun! After all, there’s no point in earning all those Primogems for Genshin Impact if you aren’t enjoying yourself.
