UsTwo games are known for creating impactful titles. The studio’s two major releases so far, Monument Valley and Alba: A Wildlife Adventure are both thought-provoking and full of heart.

Now, the London-based studio has just revealed its latest game, titled Desta: The Memories Between, during the Day of the Devs tenth-anniversary Livestream and it certainly looks to be following suit of the titles that came before it.

Desta: The Memories Between is a game about rediscovering old friends and repairing broken relationships.

You play as Desta, a young person in their 20’s who didn’t leave home in the most amicable fashion. They had fractious relationships with friends and family and they didn’t cope well with their father’s passing. It contains a variety of themes including loss, fear, reawakening and finding oneself.

While Desta: The Memories Between will contain plenty of deep, story-focused moments, it’s not a visual novel, or even anything similar. It contains many of the mechanics found in both turn-based and roguelike games and draws its inspirations from titles such as Hades, Into the Breach and Inscryption.

As Desta, players will fall asleep and then wake up in a “world between worlds”. It’s here that they will take part in a competitive ball game, that’s rich in a variety of mechanics.

It’s through this ball game that Desta starts to figure things out and realize how to resolve the conflicts that have cast a shadow over their past. It’s an unusual combination, however, if anybody can pull it off, it’s UsTwo games.

Desta: The Memories Between, which is described as being very personal to the team, and seems to be in quite the early stages of development. It is slated to release later this year in partnership with Netflix, with other platforms to follow after that.
