New Among Us VR trailer shows off new tasks and proximity chat

The idea of a virtual reality Among Us has always been an intriguing prospect and one that’s oddly terrifying when you think about it. Imagine, you’re deeply invested in a crewmate task in VR, like pulling down levers or pressing keys on a pad. All of a sudden, you hear a vent next to you open, and a red impostor comes to slash you in two. That’s exactly what happens in a recent Among Us VR trailer released by Innersloth and Schell Games. If Among Us needed a breath of fresh air, this is it.

The trailer shows off many of the new tasks reworked for virtual reality, such as the infamous Medbay Scan or Oxygen Room sabotage. Meanwhile, other players are off running from impostors, communicating with each other along the way. One of the key features of the new Among Us VR is official proximity chat support, so you can hear the impostor breathing down your neck as you run to press the Emergency Meeting button. Immersion is key.

There are a ton of other new features coming to the game that will excite veteran players. In addition to what was previously mentioned, Quick chat, a customization system with hats, and different VR modes for nausea mitigation will frontline the game. The only map at launch will be a reworked version of Skeld named “Skeld II,” but other maps will presumably follow.

“We’ve enjoyed working with Schell Games to recreate Among Us for virtual reality platforms,” said Victoria Tran, community director for Innersloth. “Whether it’s the ability for Crewmates to high-five each other in-game to interacting with tasks around the Skeld, Among Us VR builds upon the features in the original game in all the right ways. We can’t wait for the community to experience it!”

Among Us VR is currently planned to release on Meta Quest and Steam, and you can wishlist the game on those two platforms today. If you’re still not sure if you should hit the big red button, then check out the trailer for Among Us VR for a look at what’s to come.
