Fortnite weather explained: tornados and lighting storms

Fortnite is changing once more as we charge headlong into Chapter 3 Season 3. This season promises to be a lot more chill than the war against the IO proved to be, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have its fair share of dangers along the way. If you want to know how to get a victory royal, then check out our tips for Fortnite in 2022. One of the features that this season reintroduces is the weather effects that litter the landscape.

With a new map, you’ll have to be careful when navigating the two effects possible this season, the tornado and the lightning storm. Both will cause plenty of trouble if you get too close, so we’re going to tell you how best to deal with them if you get caught out in the rain, and how you could use them to your advantage.

Tornados

Fortnite Tornado

By far the most visually impressive of the effects, tornados will cause chaos wherever they form on the map. When one forms, an iconic for it will appear on the map, letting you know to steer clear, or charge in if you prefer. It takes 25 seconds for a tornado to fully form and it will last for a whopping eight minutes once it gets going. It will lift props up into the air and fling them about, which will cause serious damage if it hits you, however, if it lifts you up you’ll get the opportunity to glide back down wherever you want, so it could be useful.

Lighting Storms

Fortnite lightning storm

Far more deadly are the wild lightning storms that blast away at everything beneath it. They form in just eight seconds and last for three minutes, but there are some good reasons to stick around. Anything struck by lightning will burst into flames, that is, except for players. If you are lucky enough to get struck, you’ll take just ten damage and get a temporary speed boost, making you far more powerful.
