Saturday has arrived, and with it comes Weekend Reading 114! This may not be a surprise to you, but The Beat team is holing up inside Stately Beat Manor with a stack of books and comics to pass the hours until Monday inevitably arrives, faster than you can say “Felicitations… to the sister. I am whale!”

As always, we’re hoping that you’ll share your reading plans with us, either here in the comment section or over on social media @comicsbeat!

Weekend Reading 114: Seconds & The Seven-Per-Cent Solution.

AVERY KAPLAN: This weekend I’m going to be reading Seconds by Bryan Lee O’Malley, with drawing assistant Jason Fischer, lettering by Dustin Harbin, and color by Nathan Fairbairn. Although I have read Scott Pilgrim, I have never read this graphic novel, and I’m looking forward to amending that! Then, since today is the fortieth anniversary of the release of Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, I’m going to be amending a long-standing gap in my prose reading, as well: The Seven-Per-Cent Solution by Nicholas Meyer.

Weekend Reading 114: Milestone Compendium One

TAIMUR DAR: The Milestone Compendium One was released a few months back. It’s definitely a collection I’ve been wanting to purchase eventually but I’ve been delaying purchasing it immediately due to the hefty price and trying to be more frugal. As luck would have it, a friend of mine had an extra copy that they gifted me so I’m glad I held off buying it right away. So I’m going to be enjoying some classic ‘90s comics this weekend.

Weekend Reading 114: Fluffy.

DEAN SIMONS: The last week (and weekend) has been especially busy so my readings have carried over with some additions as I rediscover books I had meant to read but misplaced. 2000AD catchup is up to March’s prog 2271. I am still on the second half of Gene Wolfe’s Citadel of the Autarch. Adding on to these will be Simone Lia’s 2007 collected graphic novel Fluffy about an anxious single guy and Fluffy – a baby rabbit convinced that the man is his father.

Weekend Reading 114: She-Hulk, Groom Lake, & Devil’s Reign.

REBECCA OLIVER KAPLAN: I am catching up on work this weekened. But the best thing about writing about comics and entertainment is that work means reading A LOT of comics. I am re-reading the Devil’s Reign event from Marvel Comics and finishing up various She-Hulk omnibuses. I am also breaking my no PDF rule this weekend and reading a PDF of Groom Lake by Chris Ryall, Ben Templesmith, and Robbie Robbins (huge shout-out to Ryall for sending me a copy of Groom Lake after my comic shop didn’t have one). As a fan of the X-Files, both on screen and in print, I am excited to read a first second contact story of a different kind.
