Although many players make fun of Dontnod Entertainment’s games for their writing, they undeniably hold a great deal of significance in the gaming landscape. In particular, the Life is Strange series has received quite a bit of praise for its portrayal of LGBT characters, especially since it did so at a time when LGBT representation in games was more rare. The studio’s 2020 title Tell Me Why has particular significance in that it remains one of the few games to have a transgender character in the lead role. Now that Pride Month has arrived, it comes as an appropriate time for those who have not yet played Tell Me Why to experience it for the first time. Tell Me Why follows the story of Tyler and Alyson Ronan, two twins who share a supernatural bond. They utilize this bond to delve deeper into their shared past and attempt to uncover the truth behind the discomforting memories that continue to haunt them.
What’s the game like?
As players progress through the story, they will have to make a number of choices that will impact the twins’ relationship and, naturally, the outcome of the ending. The Steam page notes that the developers have “conducted on-the-ground research and partnered closely with cultural, mental health and gender advocates to craft a thoughtful, true-to-life experience.”
