Prison Architect: Gangs is set to make the prison sim even more harrowing.
It’s been six or so years sine Prison Architect was released, longer if you count its Early Access phase. For several years, developers Introversion Software has continued to roll out new content, both paid and unpaid, giving players a reason to come back. The game’s latest expansion, Prison Architect: Gangs, promises to inject gang warfare into the game.
Except.. this latest piece of content has nothing to do with the original developers. Introvision Software sold Prison Architect’s rights to Paradox Interactive who, alongside developer Double Eleven, behind this new chunk of content.
Is that a bad thing? Not really, no – it means Introvision can concentrate on their in-development sci-fi title. Double Eleven were responsible for the last expansion pack, Psych Ward, so they’ve got the chops to continue Introvision’s legacy. That said, we’re pretty sure they’re going to hit their limits on just how harrowing you can make the game.
Paradox have revealed a few things about the expansion. For a start, you’ll be able to get people out of gangs. The screenshots show off a tattoo removal program, a means of undoing “erasing” a prisoner’s gang membership. Gangs themselves can grow and shrink in size, depending on your actions and you’ll also be able to monitor individual prisoners’ boiling points, showing how close they are to losing it.
On top of that, there will be corrupt guards who smuggle contraband, just another problem for your struggling warden to deal with. In other words, if you’re not ready for a real challenge, you might want to master the main game first.
