There is finally new information on the way for Warcraft 3: Reforged. Since the launch of the game, there has been little to nothing from the development team for the game. The last official announcement for Warcraft 3: Reforged was in April of 2021. However, that will change soon. When a Twitter user asked if any news was coming from the Warcraft 3: Reforged team, Blizzard president Mike Ybarra replied with, “You’ll hear from them in soon (in June).”
This news comes after a tumultuous launch that saw many users review bombing the game on Metacritic. One user stated, “I was really looking forward to this game. But it has almost none of the promised features. The graphics feel worse than the original, they lack heart and clarity. There is no working ladder, multiple other battle net features are non existent. I have requested a refund because I am so disappointed.” The user score for Warcraft 3: Reforged on Metacritic is 0.6, one of the lowest on the site.
What’s up next for Warcraft 3: Reforged?
Warcraft 3:Reforged is absolutely due for some news regarding the state of the game. There were many features promised by management at Blizzard that were cute due to budgeting, as well as internal issues with management. Some of the features removed include the clan system, ranked ladder, and the ability to play on custom maps for solo player and campaigning. Ranked ladder eventually made it into the game, but unfulfilled promises have left a bad taste in the player’s mouth.
Expectations for any upcoming news is incredibly high. Consistent let-downs by Blizzard have not created a trusting environment for the players. Blizzard’s reputation already carries a black eye, with the company reportedly perpetuating an unhealthy work environment. Any news that comes for Warcraft 3: Reforged needs to address the issues the players have brought forth. At the very least, the hope is that custom maps support is coming, as well as reassurance that support for the game will continue.

Confusing times for Blizzard?
Earlier this year, Microsoft set out to acquire Blizzard in a landmark purchase of $95 USD per share, with a transaction value of $68.7 billion USD. Another factor to consider when looking at the Warcraft 3: Reforged situation is how Blizzard has handled itself. Accusations surfaced when employees revealed a workplace that supported a culture of sexual harassment and gender-based discrimination. With the advent of this news, many employees left the company. High-level executives have also departed from Blizzard.
Mike Morhaime, former CEO at Blizzard, departed the company before Warcraft 3: Reforged was showed at BlizzCon. Blizzard’s first woman co-head, Jen Oneal, then resigned after being hired only last August, with accusations of being “tokenized, marginalized, and discriminated against.”
All of these things add up to create a player base that has no clue what is next for Warcraft 3: Reforged, but they can look forward to more news in June.
