Star Wars Account Defends Moses Ingram, Tells People To Stop Being Racist

Following racist harassment of Moses Ingram, who stars in the new Obi-Wan Kenobi show as Reva, the Third Sister, the official Star Wars Twitter account has come out in defense of the actor.

“We are proud to welcome Moses Ingram to the Star Wars family and excited for Reva’s story to unfold,” its tweet said. “If anyone intends to make her feel in any way unwelcome, we have only one thing to say: we resist.”

The brand added another message underneath: “There are more than 20 million sentient species in the Star Wars galaxy, don’t choose to be a racist.”

Recent years have seen numerous instances of Star Wars actors of color being bullied, harassed, and criticized online. Kelly Marie Tran left all social media after the premiere of The Last Jedi, while John Boyega suffered a similar situation. Ingram is the latest case and has been sharing examples of the racist harassment she has received through her Instagram and Twitter accounts.

To see the official Twitter account make this statement arguably comes as a surprise, as it did not do the same when Tran, Boyega, and Daisy Ridley faced racist or sexist harassment. (Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill was ultimately one of the biggest voices of support.) Ridley deleted her social media accounts in 2016, and eventually returned earlier this year.

Star Wars Celebration happened last week in Anaheim and debuted several new trailers and first looks for spin-off series Andor and Asoka, which will incorporate characters from Star Wars: Rebels for the first time in live-action.

Obi-Wan Kenobi’s first two episodes are streaming on Disney+, with new episodes airing Fridays.
