Alaloth: Champions of the Four Kingdoms Gets New Gameplay Trailer, Possible Release Date Coming Soon

  • Genre: Classic RPG, Souls-like
  • Developed by: Gamera Interactive
  • Published by: Gamera Interactive
  • Release date: 2022
  • Price: TBD
  • Platforms: Windows (Steam)

Alaloth: Champions of the Four Kingdoms just breathes nostalgic air into its midst. The game looks like a souped-up version of the original Baldur’s Gate or Planescape Torment games. It definitely has the look and feel of the classics but promises to introduce many modern systems into the mix.

When it was announced back in 2020, we described it as “the very first isometric souls-like game”. Though this might not be the case anymore due to the emergence of Achilles: Legends Untold. Alaloth’s gameplay was faster than most CRPGs but still slower than ARPGs such as Diablo or Path of Exile.

Recently though, the developers took the chance on their steam page to share some exciting news. They worked very hard to release a new gameplay trailer right before the summer season, and it is looking good.

The World of Alaloth

Alaloth takes place in the fantasy continent of Plamen. The world is then further divided into four kingdoms, namely the Kingdom of Edherest, the Republic of  Larastir, Karak-Hohn, and the Desolation of Baga. Where we end up depends entirely on the player’s choice of race, be it a human, dwarf, elf, or orc.

Our unnamed hero intends to free the lands from the perpetual grasp of the evil Alaloth, a demigod that turned on his pantheon and set his sights upon the mortal realm. In order to succeed in this task, the hero will need to enter Alaloth’s Kingdom by opening it up with the help of four light shards.

Players will be able to fully explore the land of Palmen at their own leisure. The game will be open-world and the main quest is merely a suggestion, like most open-world games nowadays. There will be massive swaths of land to cover, with many distractions to keep you busy. As with any RPG, there will be tons of NPCs and Merchants to visit, Quests to complete, and Bosses to slay.

A more unique feature is that there will be over 40 houses to join, fight for, or betray. Each of these factions will have its own backstory, perks, and narratives.

Time to Slay

Combat in Alaloth looks just like what you would imagine a top-down Elden Ring to look like. It features tactical, methodical, and impactful fights. Dodging and blocking are of paramount importance, as any wrong move could cost you your life.

Similarly, actually hitting enemies give off a satisfying feel. Even basic hits with a hammer look and sound like they actually have weight, due to the crunchy sound effects and subtle screen shake effect.

To further ensure that your hero is truly your own, you can choose from one of the three Ways of Power. These are The Way of Arms, The Way of the Gods, and The Way of Nature. Each of these will have different professions and Skills to choose from.

If the fights are even just half as exhilarating as Elden Ring, then we will definitely be in for a good time.

Three’s a Crowd

Scattered across the land of Alaloth will be 12 distinct Companions. These potential friends will join you on your journey if your objectives align with theirs. The game’s alignment system (and choices you’ve made) will influence their decisions whether or not to follow you.

Infinite Amount of Stories

Players can have up to two companions with them at any time. Hopefully, there will be a lot of banter or bickering between your comrades for more entertaining journeys.

The Coming of Alaloth

Alaloth: Champions of the Four Kingdoms doesn’t have a solid release date or price at the moment. However, they did tease that the team is ramping up communications this 2022 to make up for lost time. They do seem to have many announcements coming this summer though.
