Blood – Blood Essence, Blood Types explained

When you’re a vampire, blood comes up in conversation a lot. In a vampire game, blood comes up a lot in game mechanics. Your Blood Supply, Blood Essence, Blood Type, and even abilities like Blood Mend… There’s a lot to wrap your head around, but we’re here to simplify things a bit, just as we did in our V Rising beginner tips.

V Rising is a game that revolves around resource management, in addition to a bit of crafting and combat. You’ll need different kinds of blood to fuel pretty much everything – yourself, in addition to your castle and all the items you fill it with. In this guide we’re breaking down everything you need to know to use different kinds of blood effectively in V Rising.

Blood Essence – V Rising

Blood Essence is the first essential type of blood you’ll need. These appear as small red orbs in your inventory, and you’ll be able to collect them defeating pretty much any kind of enemy.

You’ll be able to get much more from killing bosses and strong foes, or you can Feed on your opponent when their health is low to even refill your Blood Supply while you’re at it.

Blood Essence is essential to power the Castle Heart and make everything within it actually function – consider it like an electric generator in many other survival games. Without a powered Castle Heart, your progress will come to a standstill.

Blood Supply, Blood Types – V Rising

Your Blood Supply is the orb in the bottom center of your screen. You will need blood to perform a variety of tasks, including performing a Blood Mend in order to recover your health. You can restore your Blood Supply by feeding on enemies when their health is low, or in an emergency, using the rats you can pick up.

What you feed on to refill that Blood Supply changes your Blood Type. There are seven Blood Types in V Rising. Frailed is the default Blood Type, so you won’t be using it often. The other Blood Types carry a variety of bonuses, depending on how high the Blood Quality is – this is the percentage you see when feeding. The bonus you can acquire are as follows, and their effects are enhanced with higher Blood Quality.

Frailed – No bonus.
Brute – Attack life leech.
Creature – Movement speed buff.
Rogue – Critical strike chance buff.
Scholar – Spell power buff.
Warrior – Physical power buff.
Worker – Increased resource yield.

Blood Abilities – V Rising

Finally, by holding the Left Ctrl button, you can access a wheel of Blood Abilities. Things will start out slim, with the simple Blood Mend ability being your main port of call, but as you defeat bosses and progress through the game, this wheel will fill with abilities.

You will need a high Blood Supply in order to use the strongest of these abilities, but since they’re mostly combat-focused abilities anyway, you should regularly have the chance to feed and fill your supply once again.
