Back in August 2021, actor Norman Reedus (who played protagonist Sam Bridges) said that negotiations were ongoing for a second Death Stranding. It seems these were successful. In a new interview with Leo, when asked about filming Death Stranding, Reedus said, “We just started the second one.”

He then discussed how he got the role, which started when director Guillermo del Toro first got in touch. “Guillermo Del Toro, who gave me my first movie, called me up and said, ‘Hey, there’s a guy named Hideo Kojima, he’s gonna call you, just say yes.’ And I go, ‘What do you mean just say yes?’ He goes, ‘Stop being an a**hole, just say yes.’

“Then I was in San Diego and Hideo came with a big group of people, he’s from Tokyo, and he showed me what he was working on on a game called Silent Hill. I was blown away by what he was showing me, and I was like, ‘Yes, let’s do this.’ It’s not Ms. Pacman; it’s so realistic, it’s so futuristic, it’s so complicated and beautiful, and I was completely blown away.

“It took me maybe two or three years to finish all the MoCap sessions and everything. It takes a lot of work. And then the game came out, and it just won all these awards, and it was a huge thing, so we just started part two of that.”

Though neither Kojima Productions nor Sony have confirmed a sequel to be in development, there have been some hints here and there. In November 2021, Kojima posted an image on set with an individual in the frame that resembled Reedus. In April 2022, a PS5 dev kit was discovered in the developer’s office, prompting speculation of a new PS5 title being in development.

Regardless, it seems that the sequel is in very early stages so it may be a while before it releases. A teaser trailer could be coming sooner or later this year so stay tuned for any announcements.
