WRC Generations

WRC Generations is coming to PlayStation and Xbox this October, and it’ll be the final WRC game from by Kylotonn and Nacon.

That’s not to say developer Kylotonn and publisher Nacon will be waving farewell to car games; Kylotonn is already working on Test Drive Unlimited Solar Crown, though the latter has been delayed until 2023. But Codemasters has signed an exclusive five year deal with FIA, who are responsible for putting on the World Rally Championships and, from next year, it’ll be putting out official WRC games.

So here’s hoping that WRC Generations gives the series a good send-off. The brief trailer looks suitably impressive, though the trailer music does, initially, sound like it belongs in a horror movie. Actually, now we think about it, the more we like the idea of a racing game where all the drivers are masked slashers.

WRC Generations will sport 37 cars and let you race around 22 different countries. As the title suggests, this is a “serious” racer, so you can expect a high level of realism. We got a kick out of WRC 10, the previous entry in the series, WRC 10, saying “It can be punishing at times, perhaps overly so, but it’s hard not to be impressed by the game’s authenticity.”

Nacon has dubbed WRC Generations “the most complete rally game”, which is quite a boast. You’ll be able to play it online or offline and it’s set to sport a career mode, a player vs player league mode, editable, shareable livery and a training mode that supports split-screen. The latter, in particular, has us intrigued as there’s a diminishing number of games that support split-screen play.

WRC Generations will arrive this October 13th on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S. It’s going to arrive on Nintendo Switch and PC later, though there’s no official release date as yet. Now, if you’ll excuse us, we’ve got to talk to Behaviour Interactive about Dead by Daylight Kart.
