PlayStation announced a State of Play for March 9, 2022, which will focus on PS4 & PS5 games from Japanese publishers. Here are our 7 best predictions for which games could be revealed.
Several Japanese publishers are working closely with Sony and PlayStation, including Capcom, Square Enix, Sega, and Japan Studio. All these studios could reveal some juicy trailers or brand-new games at the State of Play showcase.
Square Enix first revealed FF16 at the PlayStation 5 reveal event in 2020. After failing to fulfill his initial promise to show the game in 2021, the game’s producer, Naoki Yoshida, promised we’ll see the JRPG in 2022 with a big trailer.
Fumito Ueda and Team Ico teased in January 2021 a new project, following Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, and The Last Guardian. This new project could get revealed at the State of Play.
It’s very likely SMT V is not a permanent Nintendo Switch exclusive. The apocalyptic JRPG was listed in the infamous GeForce leak. A PlayStation release could be announced at the State of Play. And Atlus could confirm a PC release right after the showcase.
This is one of the most sought-after upgrades and ports. Right now, Bloodborne is only available on PS4, and was published on March 24, 2015. A PS5 remaster running in 60 FPS isn’t a far-fetched idea. It would be a great way to celebrate the game’s 7th anniversary.
This could be the best occasion for Capcom to officially reveal the remake of Resident Evil 4. The original game, first released on Nintendo Gamecube in 2005, still holds up today. So making a satisfying remake gameplay-wise might be a difficult task.
Gravity Rush, also known as Gravity Daze, was one of the best games on the PS Vita, and its sequel on PS4 was incredible as well. Sadly, the game’s online servers, used for a unique gameplay part, were shut down quite fast. A remaster containing both games will be great for those who have yet to discover these masterpieces, which most notably have an incredible OST by Kohei Tanaka (Gunbuster, Sakura Taisen, One Piece).
Vanillaware and Atlus teased a new fantasy project in the first demo for 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim. That was back in March 2019. 13 Sentinels is a masterpiece praised by Smash Bros director Masahiro Sakurai and NieR director Yoko Taro, so Japanese games fans are all waiting for what the studios will do next. Similarly, Atlus could finally reveal more on Project Re Fantasy, which is in development ever since Persona 5 was first released in September 2016.
The State of Play will last for around 20 minutes and is happening on Twitch and YouTube at:
Keep in mind the showcase is only 20 minutes, so it’s unlikely we’ll get more than 6-7 games. Not every single game featured will be from Japanese publishers either. What are your own predictions for the State of Play? Tell us in the comments below!
