5 biggest changes in PUBG Mobile 2.0

PUBG Mobile launches version 2.0 today, bringing with it huge changes to gameplay, a new season, and exciting collaborations never before seen in the free-to-play PUBG. The biggest change fans are raving about is the new map, Livik. The map was released in beta a couple of weeks ago, and now it’s ready to launch officially, with changes to all of the biggest areas.

For a limited time, fans of the Evangelion anime will have a treat in store with a new game mode focused on the collaboration with PUBG. A new season brings with it new rewards and a new Royale Pass Month for you to enjoy. Along with all that, there’s a whole host of new items, weapons, and upgrades in the store. We’ve collected all of the biggest changes you need to know about.

Tier system changes

PUBG Mobile’s tier system stops players from getting overwhelmed by highly-skilled players in their first matches. Even though there can be up to 100 players in a game at once, if there are a few with skills far beyond the rest, battle royale beginners aren’t going to have a good time. Instead, a tier system has been put in place to sort everyone out.

Traditionally the bottom two ranks, Bronze and Silver, had five levels that players had to work their way through to get to the next tier, where greater rewards lie in wait. However, in version 2.0 these have been cut down to get you up the ladder quicker. Now Bronze has only three levels, and Silver has four.

Emergency Pickup

A few new items have been added with this update, but the one that looks the most fun is definitely the Emergency Pickup. When you find it out in the world, this little duffel bag might not look like much but set it down and a big hot air balloon will pop up. Hang around it long enough, and a plane will show up that you can attach yourself to.

In an animation that looks as fun as it is dangerous, the plane will drag you and your squadmates underneath it towards the centre of the play area. You can drop off at any time making this perfect for a quick getaway, you just need to be careful, as the balloon will let everyone in the nearby area know where you are.

Cycle 2 Season 6

A new season is always an exciting time, as brand new cosmetic items and rewards pile into stores. Coming on May 19th, Cycle 2 Season 6 brings new Legendary rewards, such as cool-looking Glasses, Parachutes, and Masks. What else will be on offer is yet to be seen, but it’s sure to make you look better than ever.

With this comes new Royale Pass Month themes. The current month, Month 11, is all about Hidden Hunters, letting you level up by completing in-game challenges. The rewards on offer are very suave like the Purity Defender Outfit, although, its pure-white look will ironically make you stand out if you’re not careful.

Evangelion Partnership

Brands from all over pop culture are looking to partner up with battle royale games at the moment. While Fortnite has the market cornered on Marvel stuff, as well as crossovers with other popular gaming franchises, PUBG still has a pretty wide reach too, now bringing a historic and beloved anime in with a whole new mode.

This new mode drops you into a small portion of a map, making sure things kick off much more quickly. The main attraction, though, is a grand battle taking place in the middle of the zone, as Evangelion’s EVA Unit 01 battles the Sixth Angel. Whether you’ll be able to interact or interfere in this battle at all is unclear, but it’s a sight to behold nonetheless.

Livik Map

A new map is always very exciting for battle royale games. Those who know a map well tend to have an advantage, so a brand new map is a chance for everyone to be on an even playing field, all getting the chance to learn the major tactics. This map focuses on urban environments, with lots of built-up areas overlooked by an erupting volcano.

In this map, you’ll be able to find a new vehicle, a four-seater Utility Task Vehicle designed to run on all terrains with ease. Seeing it in action, it’s very manoeuvrable and should have no trouble if you want to blast over a bumpy rural area. Also, around the map are stations where you can upgrade your weapons to a new UX tier, making them deadlier than ever.

There are more balance changes, minigames, and small additions that fans are sure to want the low-down on, and for that, you can see the trailer on the official PUBG Mobile YouTube channel.
