Goku has been the main protagonist in the Dragon Ball franchise ever since the show started decades ago when Goku was but a small child. Now, the same goes as Goku is still battling it out with friends and enemies, whether it be to protect his friends or simply because the Saiyan loves a good fight!
Sometimes, when it comes to defending the world (or the universe) from insanely powerful villains, though, Goku isn’t able to take them down. This is a scary fact for the Earth, as Goku is considered the strongest of the Z Fighters. Some other characters may surprise fans as they have helped out Goku when needed!
10 Taking Out Raditz
Dragon Ball Z is easily regarded as the most popular entry of the Dragon Ball franchise, as it also has some of the best and most referred-to moments in Dragon Ball. The very first saga, in fact, was the Saiyan Saga, in which Saiyans were introduced as Raditz sought out Goku.
After Raditz threatened the planet, Goku attempted to fight against him, but his brother was too strong. Piccolo then joined Goku, but they still weren’t able to defeat the Saiyan. Eventually, Goku sacrificed his life, and Piccolo won the fight for them.
9 Kid Buu Was A Menace
The Majin Buu Saga can be referred to as the most sinister saga in the Dragon Ball franchise because of how evil and deceiving the Majins were. Majin Buu was an incredibly powerful enemy, even laughing off Goku’s brand-new transformation into Super Saiyan 3.
Once Kid Buu surfaced, though, the Z Fighters had almost lost all hope as this version of Buu was even stronger. Kid Buu was pure evil incarnate, and Goku needed help. Vegeta and Goku fought side by side against the monster, but it was also Earth that gave Goku the energy he needed to win.
8 Super Broly Was On Another Level
Dragon Ball Super has finally allowed cinematic movies to prevail under the canonical flag of the Dragon Ball franchise from DB Super onward. Broly was even brought back in a Dragon Ball Super movie to adapt the character to the canon timeline, and Broly was still reminiscent of the beast that Z Broly was.
This character eventually grew so strong that Goku and Vegeta were struggling against the legendary Super Saiyan. Goku knew he couldn’t fight alone, so he had Vegeta fuse with him into Gogeta to finish the fight.
7 Vegeta Was Stronger Than Goku
The Saiyan Saga, as mentioned earlier, was the very first saga that fans of Dragon Ball were met with in Dragon Ball Z. This brought upon the revelation of the Saiyan race, and the Z Fighters were put up against the clock as two Saiyans were to invade Earth.
Once those Saiyans arrived, they proved deadly as they easily defeated the Z Fighters while Goku wasn’t there. Once Goku did get there, Vegeta overpowered him quickly after he turned into a Great Ape, in which Goku needed help from Krillin and Gohan to fight the beast.
6 Trunks Saved The Planet By Saving Goku
Dragon Ball Z introduced one of the more popular characters of the franchise within the Cell/Android Saga. This character is Future Trunks, the son of Vegeta and Bulma, that had traveled from the future to prepare the Z Fighters for a threat that had decimated his planet.
Trunks warned Goku and the rest of the party of a heart virus that would plague Goku and eventually kill him. Luckily, Trunks also gave Goku the antidote in order to save his life. This simple fact is why Dragon Ball is still going strong!
5 The Battle Against Jiren
The Tournament of Power was an amazing collection of the strongest warriors from a large multitude of different universes, all fighting due to the fact that Goku wanted to fight such renowned fighters. Jiren was easily the strongest fighter there, as even the Gods were afraid of the character.
This character even proved his strength as he continuously beat Goku until the Saiyan went Ultra Instinct for the first time. Eventually, Goku needed the help of Android 17 and even Frieza to rid of Jiren for good.
4 Fused Zamasu Needed To Be Humbled
Dragon Ball Super had a lot of different situations happening one after another, with Goku Black/Zamasu quickly becoming a problem for the Z Fighters and Future Trunks’ timeline. Trunks traveled from the future once more to seek out help from Goku and Vegeta as Zamasu destroyed his world using Goku’s body.
Once Vegeta and Goku got to Trunks’ timeline, the villain proved incredibly strong as he even fused with himself from a different timeline. After this, Goku and Vegeta knew they needed to fuse in order to defeat the villain.
3 Omega Shenron Was Too Much
Though Dragon Ball GT was ignored by most of the fans of the Dragon Ball franchise, the anime is still out there and watched by many other fans that truly adore it. Within this show is the Super Saiyan 4 transformation that Goku and Vegeta unlock.
Even with this new transformation, though, they couldn’t stand up against the main antagonist Omega Shenron. Just like the two do when their backs are against the wall, though, Goku and Vegeta quickly fused and overpowered the villain.
2 Goku Stepped Down From Fighting Cell
The Cell Games came as a surprise to the Z Fighters as Trunks reported that this had never appeared in his timeline, so the fighters weren’t exactly sure what they were up against. Luckily, they had time to prepare and did so accordingly with the Hyperbolic Time Chamber.
This gave Goku time to train with his son Gohan. During this time, Goku realized how strong his son actually was. Once Goku went up against Cell, he knew he couldn’t beat the villain himself, so he stepped down and had his son do so instead.
1 Stepping Into Divine Power
Dragon Ball Super has produced a ton of new transformations, enemies, ideas, and more for fans to take in as part of the Dragon Ball universe. Among these new additions to the anime was the brand new Super Saiyan God transformation (that didn’t have the spotlight for too long).
This transformation was merely a rumor, but once Beerus threatened Earth, Goku sought out help from his Saiyan friends in order to transform into Super Saiyan God for the first time. Because of his allies, he was able to accomplish what was never seen before.
