World of Warcraft continues to be one of the best MMOs around, but the game definitely had its ups and downs over the years. The Wrath of the Lich King expansion was easily one of the high points, and you can finally experience it again (or for the very first time if you’re a new player), thanks to Wrath Classic. And, just like any other version of WoW, Wrath of the Lich King is best played with add-ons.
If you’re new to WoW, you’re probably wondering what the deal is with these add-ons. Well, they basically work just like mods for Fallout 4 or other single-player games. The main difference is that these mods are purely cosmetic or utilitarian in nature. You can’t use them to gain player power, though they will give you other advantages over players who don’t use them.
10 Deadly Boss Mods
Deadly Boss Mods has been around forever and is one of the most useful add-ons for World of Warcraft. The mod gives you detailed information about raids, dungeons, special events, and more. The best part is that the information is relayed to you during the encounters.
Just to give you one example, the add-on warns you when a boss is about to enter a different phase while also telling you that you should get out of the way of their powerful ability. Deadly Boss Mods has tons of customization options, but it also works perfectly fine without any tweaks.
9 Details! Damage Meter
This one is primarily useful for damage dealers but can come in handy regardless of your spec. Details! is a very reliable damage meter that can help you stay on top of your DPS at all times. In addition to showing your damage, the mod shows you the DPS of other party members as well.
In spite of its name, Details! can be used for tracking both damage and healing. The add-on even has plugins that show other useful information, including death logs, debuffs, cooldowns, and more. Meanwhile, advanced users can take advantage of the built-in tools to create weakauras, build custom displays, and monitor damage and healing stats across their entire guild.
8 Questie
Unlike retail WoW, Wrath of the Lich King Classic doesn’t have a built-in quest helper. If you’re the type of person who likes completing quests the old-fashioned way, you probably don’t want this add-on. But if you’re someone who wants to speed up the leveling experience, you’ll absolutely love Questie.
Questie is a very straightforward add-on that shows you where you need to go and what you need to do in order to complete your quests in the fastest way possible. The mod gives you a few other bits of useful information, such as a quest’s recommended level and the ideal number of players needed to complete it.
7 Auctionator
Playing the Auction House can be one of the most enjoyable activities in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, but only if you know what you’re doing. World of Warcraft’s AH fluctuates more than the stock market, to the point where it’s impossible to keep track of the prices without an add-on like this.
Auctionator greatly simplifies the process of buying and selling items in the auction house by introducing several fantastic features. Most notably, the mod allows you to see AH prices just by hovering over items in your inventory. Auctionator is also very useful for undercutting the competition and mass buying or selling a whole bunch of items at once.
6 Bagnon
Bagnon is a small but very helpful WoW add-on that replaces the old and boring bag interface. With this mod, you can combine all your bags into one, so you can better see all the items in your inventory at a glance. Bagnon also highlights important items and comes equipped with a built-in search bar, allowing you to quickly find whatever you need.
In addition to helping you organize your inventory, Bagnon also improves the bank and guild storage interfaces in a similar way. Another useful feature is the ability to check various storage areas from any of your other characters, provided they’re on the same account, of course.
5 AtlastLootClassic
Wrath of the Lich King Classic doesn’t show loot tables by default, but you can change that with AtlastLootClassic. This add-on introduces a new menu that gives you loot-related information for every boss in the game, as well as some other types of special enemies. AtlasLootClassic also has sections for crafting materials, item sets, factions, and more.
If you want to take things one step further, you can pair AtlasLootClassic with the Atlas Wrath of the Lich King module. The module gives you access to all the Wrath of the Lich King Classic maps. This includes maps for dungeons and raids, complete with markers for bosses and important points of interest.
4 RareScanner
A lot of rare mobs drop valuable loot but finding these mobs is usually a challenge – They’re called rare for a reason. This add-on greatly simplifies that task by alerting you whenever there’s a rare mob nearby. By default, RareScanner gives you both audio and visual alerts, but you can customize those to your liking.
Wrath of the Lich King Classic doesn’t have as many rare mobs as later expansions, but there are still a few of them that are worth your time. The most obvious example is the elusive Time-Lost Proto Drake, which drops the mount bearing the same name. Aside from mobs, the add-on also keeps an eye out for rare treasures and events.
3 Bartender4
Wrath of the Lich King aged like fine wine, but the same cannot be said about World of Warcraft’s user interface. WoW’s UI was always a bit ugly, but thankfully that problem can be easily rectified with this add-on. Bartender4 is an action bar replacement mod that allows you to customize every single element of the UI to your liking.
Bartender4’s customization options are pretty in-depth. Not only can you reposition every element, but you can also resize it, adjust its transparency, or outright get rid of it. Customizing your UI with this mod is pretty time-consuming, but it’s definitely worth doing because it makes the game look so much better.
2 TomTom
TomTom is a very useful add-on that makes it easier to navigate around Northrend or any other part of World of Warcraft. The mod allows you to add waypoints to your map, a neat feature that should have probably been included by Blizzard in the base game. Even more useful is the fact that TomTom allows you to share your waypoints with other players.
Another helpful feature worth mentioning is “crazy taxi.” This comes in the form of an arrow that floats above your head and shows you the direction of your next waypoint. The arrow is a bit obtrusive, but enabling it removes the need to look at your map every two minutes.
1 Scrap
Scrap is a small add-on that makes a huge difference while playing Wrath of the Lich King Classic. The mod is essentially a junk seller that automatically gets rid of all your gray and white items whenever you visit a vendor. You’re going to sell all that stuff anyway, so you might as well automate the process.
Scrap has an additional great feature that automatically repairs all your damaged equipment. This occurs whenever the player visits a blacksmith, armorer, or another NPC who can repair equipment. Between selling all your junk and repairing your equipment, Scrap will make your interactions with random NPCs even shorter than usual.
