Mortal Kombat characters are fringe in terms of design and in comparison to others in the fighting game genre. They bear aesthetics that are as rigid as the gameplay of the series. That’s what players love about it though. They know that no matter what Mortal Kombat game they play there’s bound to be some awe-inspiring character that appears on the screen.

The game does this with little failure and provides great move sets and fatalities to accompany characters. This list aims to take a look at some of the best Mortal Kombat characters to have been introduced into the series. These characters are all different in the way that they work in the game as well as in aesthetic design.

10 10/10 Dark Kahn – Mortal Kombat VS. DC Universe

Dark Khan is from the crossover Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe. He serves as the main villain of the game. Part of what is so cool about him is that his character is both Shao Kahn and Darkseid combined. This makes him a killing machine made up of pure rage. The game further explains this in its lore. The combination of magma and skeleton is menacing.

His move set is slower than other characters but he can dish out big damage quickly. He also can use Earth-shattering moves that add to his eye candy.

9 9/10 Bo’ Rai Cho – Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance

Bo’ Rai Cho is a fun character from Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance in his design and his movements. He looks like an alcoholic who’s let himself go a little bit and that’s exactly what he’s supposed to represent. All of his moves are based on fighting in a drunken style which creates loose swift attacks.

Some of the moves he has in the games involve him drinking and farting on opponents to stun them. It’s great to watch these moves in action, especially if you’re the one implementing them. They’ll have you laughing as you pummel your opponent down with a well-placed fart that leads into a killer combo.

8 8/10 Sheeva – Mortal Kombat III

Sheeva first appears in Mortal Kombat III is part of the Shokan race which is a group of half human and half dragon beings. Her appearance is striking as she appears to be taller than many of her opponents in the game. She also has four arms that can be used to deal out interesting grab attacks on her enemies.

Playing her is enjoyable as a lot of her moves look as though she is overpowering her opponent. She’ll rip them from where they stand and throw them beneath her to then stomp on them. She is a flurry of pain to anyone who stands in her way.

7 7/10 Baraka – Mortal Kombat II

Baraka has been in the Mortal Kombat series since Mortal Kombat II. His appearance from then on has remained along the same vein. He is the leader of his race of people. Baraka’s race of people is made up of a cross between humans and demons in the Mortal Kombat lore.

As a playable character, his evolution has been fun to watch as he’s gone from a fairly basic character to one whose moves have been expanded on. His terrifying face full of teeth and his bladed arms are a symbol of the series.

6 6/10 Meat – Mortal Kombat: Armageddon

Meat was supposed to be a skin variant for all of the Mortal Kombat characters. Mortal Kombat: Armageddon scrapped that and ended up turning Meat into his own character. Meat is grossly intriguing as his character design is supposed to be that of a skinless human. His muscle tissue is exposed and players can see some of his bones protruding from his body.

It’s all of the little details that make him fun to play like his dangling eye and the butcher knives he’ll pull out with some of his moves. He’s also constantly dripping in blood. Meat is probably the most objectively disturbing fighting game character.

5 5/10 Motaro – Mortal Kombat III

Motaro was a centaur fighter that was introduced in Mortal Kombat III. His design is different from other characters in the game as he is much larger than many of them. He also has a much longer body than his opponents so he takes up a lot of space horizontally and vertically.

His playstyle is interesting as he can conduct moves that players would expect from a centaur-like kicking his legs back. He is also able to throw some unexpected moves such as shooting a ball of energy at his opponents.

4 4/10 Onaga – Mortal Kombat: Deception

Though Onaga was first introduced as a boss in Mortal Kombat: Deception he served as a playable character in Mortal Kombat: Armageddon. Onaga was the Dragon King in Deception and the main antagonist. The choices in his design are some of the most interesting that the game has. He has a hybrid-like form that crosses dragon and human. He has large expanding wings that match the gigantism of the rest of his proportions.

All of his moves feel heavy and like they pack a menacing punch. His dragon abilities like breathing fire feel great to combo into.

3 3/10 Kronika – Mortal Kombat 11

Kronika is the main villain in Mortal Kombat 11. Her design is sleek and unlike something that players are used to in the Mortal Kombat series. Even the characters with futuristic tones look kind of grungey to fit the style of the game. Kronika’s the opposite and looks pristine as she wears a mainly charcoalish-colored dress that has nice white undertones.

The way that she fights is quick and elegant as she never actually touches her opponents. All of her attacks are made up of different types of energy which make them flashy as they hit. Her fatalities are also neat to play around with as she has some that look like endless torture.

2 2/10 Kollector – Mortal Kombat 11

Anyone who played the Kollector knows how fun he can be to use. He first made his debut in the series in Mortal Kombat 11. He is one of the best additions to the game. His aesthetic resembles that of a wealthy goblin through the precious gems placed around his outfit. He has six arms.

Two of them hold a sack on his back though they are rarely seen. The way he plays involves him constantly rummaging through his sack to take out different items and dish out damage.

1 1/10 D’Vorah – Mortal Kombat X

D’Vorah is one of the choice picks for the best character in the Mortal Kombat series. She is first introduced in Mortal Kombat X and made a great impression as a new character. She is part of the Kytinn race–they are insect-like humanoid creatures. Her outfit design makes her look like the grim reaper as she wears a black robe-like piece of cloth over herself.

No one can go wrong picking up D’veorah. Her moves are baffling as she uses bugs to aid her in combat which creates some of the most frightening fatalities. Her combos feel natural as every input slides into the next. She is fast yet powerful and looks great dealing damage. Overall, she’s a top pick for anyone.
