10 Best Leviathan Axe Runic Attacks, Ranked

0

In God of War Ragnarok, Kratos fights with three different deadly weapons. Each one has its own unique abilities and uses. The Leviathan Axe, for example, is an iconic weapon from the previous game. In God of War Ragnarok, the hacking, chopping, and throwing of the legendary axe is as great as ever.

However, once the attachments, upgrades, and both light and heavy Runic Attacks are included, managing your weapons can be a lot to take in. To help you decide which Runic Attacks to use on the Leviathan Axe, here’s a list of some of the best ones.

DUALSHOCKERS VIDEO OF THE DAY

10/10 Wrath Of The Frost Ancient – Light Attack

Kratos shoots “a powerful ice beam that Frosts enemies on contact.” Wrath of the Frost Ancient’s beam can be useful in a fight, and its ability to move while firing is good for multiple enemies. The Light Runic Attack also gets more range with an upgrade that extends the beam’s length of time.

It gets the tenth spot on the list because although it looks cool, it allows enemies to flank you and get close to your backside while firing. On top of that, it also lacks area effects, getting it the last spot in our ranking.

9/10 Winter’s Bite – Light Attack

This attack will “form a mass of ice around the Leviathan Axe” while allowing you to “run up to a strike target with incredible force.” Winter’s Bite is best used against multiple enemies. While it does decent damage to a single foe like a boss, it’s better used against crowds of multiple enemies.

However, it’s important to note that it lacks an after-effect like Frost or stuns. So, using it against a boss or a more difficult single enemy is fine, but it leaves Kratos vulnerable as it won’t knock them. It is for this reason, Winter’s Bite is number nine on the list, adequate but not the best.

8/10 Invaldi’s Anvil – Heavy Attack

The Leviathan Axe unleashes “a staggering area-of-effect attack that deals Frost status to all nearby enemies.” Invaldi’s Anvil is at its best when used against crowds of enemies. However, because of its Frost application, it can be effective for boss battles too.

Either way, a Frost effect that can work on multiple enemies in a radius is a useful ability. This Heavy Runic Attack is also useful because of its staggering effect, which adds another layer of helpfulness when fighting multiple enemies.

7/10 Njord’s Tempest – Light Attack

This Light Runic Attack is “a rapidly spinning Melee Attack that clears out surrounding enemies and deals significant damage.” Njord’s Tempest is one of the most visually impressive Runic Attacks for the Leviathan Axe and is a good choice for multiple occasions.

The knock-back effect is good for making space, the spinning attack is good for crowd fighting, and the movement makes it more all-around than others. This attack’s weakest element is that Kratos is the one who spins, so players can end up in odd positioning after the attack.

6/10 Leviathan’s Roar – Heavy Attack

Kratos performs “a powerful Axe throw that returns with devastating impact,” and he is “fully protected while shielding.” Leviathan’s Roar is a Heavy Runic attack that is especially good for ranged and distant enemies. The range of the throw is impressive as Kratos hurls his Axe through any and all victims on the back and forth of his throw.

This attack is pretty versatile and works fine on bosses and large groups. The lack of effects or a stun hurts the effectiveness of this attack but the protection it offers while the Axe is flying helps make up the difference.

5/10 Hel’s Touch – Light Attack

“An extremely quick burst of energy that interrupts and knocks back all nearby enemies.” Hel’s Touch is one of the more strategic Runic Attacks, and though it works with crowds of enemies, it’s best used to fight solo bosses. The main reason for this is that Hel’s Touch can interrupt enemy attacks, even unblockable red ones.

Also, because its effect is so quick, saving the Light Runic Attack to cancel a major, high-damage attack from a boss can be the difference between victory and defeat. The knock-back is also handy for getting you time to heal or reset a fight, but the lack of distance can be detrimental.

4/10 Mists Of Helheim – Heavy Attack

Kratos fires off “a lingering area-of-effect attack that creates a small hazard, inflicting Frost status to all enemies inside.” Mists of Helheim is one of the best Heavy Runic Attacks in the game, mostly because of its incredible range. Not only does Mists of Helheim apply Frost in a large area, but it also remains intact for a few seconds.

This makes the attack very versatile because Kratos can use the time after the attack to get offensive with more damage or defensive for getting heals. The combination of the lingering effect with the possibilities it presents makes this Runic Attack a great choice.

3/10 Fog Of Fimbulwinter – Heavy Attack

“A massive ice wave that inflicts Frost damage and freezes enemies in its path.” Fog of Fimbulwinter is a useful Heavy Runic Attack that has a wide range of uses. Best used for slowing and escaping crowds, this attack can also be helpful when facing bosses because of its range.

The Frost Slow also makes it a strategic attack that works great in many fighting situations. The range of Kratos’ attack is also beneficial as he doesn’t get too close, and the area allows more enemies to get caught up in the Frost damage.

2/10 Skadi’s Edge – Light Attack

Kratos lets loose “a tracking Axe throw that ricochets between targets.” Probably the most fun Runic Attack in the game, Skadi’s Edge comes in at number two and has Kratos bouncing the Leviathan Axe off his shield and recalling it in between.

This Light Runic Attack has an awesome look and feel. It is also very practical and can be great when used on bosses, crowds, and everything in between. The bouncing Axe gives players options for movement and recovery, and the repeating blows are great for a single enemy or tons at a time.

1/10 Breath Of Thamur – Heavy Attack

Kratos unleashes “a massive area-of-effect attack that deals damage to all enemies within an extremely large area.” Breath of Thamur is easily the most gorgeous Runic Attack in the game, and its cinematic potential is off-the-charts. An obvious choice for crowds of enemies, this Heavy Runic Attack gets the number one pick mostly because of the large area the attack takes up.

With a radius so large, this attack can be used for offense, defense, bosses, escape, or just damage. Try forcing enemies to spend as much time in the cyclone as possible, and you’ll see why this is an easy choice for the best Runic Attack. It’s also the best Runic Attack if you’re looking forward to getting some epic screenshots.
