Whenever we hear about school-related anime shows, we think of a typical high school romance where a charming young guy and a beautiful girl fall in love. But, Classroom of the Elite breaks the stereotype by introducing us to a school setup where the main protagonist has a Stoic personality, and the students plot a conspiracy against each other to maintain their position at the top.

10 Danganronpa: The Animation

Danganronpa: The Animation definitely feels similar to Classroom of the Elite but follows a much darker theme. Where the latter follows mind games and psychological wars, the former consists of a series of murders. The show has 13 episodes in total, so you can binge-watch it in a day or two. And if you like the series, you can watch its sequel, Danganronpa 3: The End of Hope’s Peak High School.

The show is set in a high school where sixteen students enroll, hoping for a great future, given its prestigious name. But, the school turns out to be a trap instead, and the only way for the students to graduate is by murdering fellow students without getting caught in the trial that follows.

9 The Irregular at Magic High School

Consider this series Classroom of the Elite, but with a twist of magic. The two show has too much resemblance, like their setup in the high school, the distribution of students based on their performance, and of course, an amazing protagonist. Unexpected twists in the story and startling action scenes full of magic make the show entertaining until the end.

The show is set after the events of World War III, after which Japan is left as one of the major superpowers. The series follows the story of two siblings, Tatsuya Shiba and his sister Miyuki Shiba, who enroll in a magic school. While Miyuki gets selected as an elite first-class student, Tatsuya falls in the category of second class and is considered incompetent. But, his abilities are far superior to anyone else in the school.

8 Baka And Test

If you had enough psychological war with Classroom of the Elite, then it’s time to enjoy its comedy version with Baka and Test. Almost everything between the two shows remains the same; just the latter one depicts them in the most hilarious way possible.

Fumizuki Academy discriminates among their students by providing pleasure and a comfortable setting to those in Class A, and the Class F students have broken chairs and desks and are not equipped with air conditioning and other facilities. Seeing the biased nature of the school, Akihisa Yoshii resolves to work hard to bring his class to the top.

7 Prison School

Definitely the most hilarious series on the list, but make sure only to watch it if you’re into consensual comedy. Prison School depicts how boys can turn perfect surroundings into complete disaster. And at the same time, how they can turn their serious punishment into a celebration.

The show is set in Hachimitsu Academy, a prestigious girls’ school that decides to enroll boys as well. Kiyoshi Fujino, along with four other boys, gets admission to the academy and discovers that they are the only boys among a thousand girls. It feels like a lottery to the boys, but soon they are caught peeping in the girl’s bathroom, and as a punishment, they have to spend one month in the school’s prison, where they are supervised by overly attractive supervisors.

6 Hyouka

Based on a literature series written by Honobu Yonezawa, Hyouka is a mystery and slice-of-life anime that will give you the feel of watching Classroom of the Elite. In Hyouka, the students don’t focus on competing with each other; instead, they work together and solve strange mysteries.

The story centers around the life of Houtarou Oreki, a high school guy who joins the Classic Literature Club at his sister’s request. Other club members include Eru Chitanda, Satoshi Fukube, and Mayaka Ibara. Soon their easygoing lives flip around when he is tasked with solving strange mysteries revolving around their daily lives.

5 Tomodachi Game

If you admire Classroom of the Elite for its psychological challenges and how the main protagonist, Ayanokogi, finds his way out of every problem, then you shouldn’t skip this show. Tomodachi Game is not about the rivalries among the classes to gain the top position. Instead, the show revolves around the test of friendship among a group of friends.

Yuichi Katagiri values friendship more than anything in his life – a lesson taught to him since childhood. After the money collected for the school trip is stolen, all five friends find themselves playing a strange game called Tomodachi Game that will find the culprit by putting their friendship to the ultimate test.

4 My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU

There’s a significant difference in the story between the two shows, but there are still a few similarities that bring this series to the list. Hachiman Hikigaya’s personality matches a lot with Ayanokoji from Classroom of the Elite. They both believe in themselves and have a Stoic nature. Just like Ayanokoji, Hachiman isn’t much noticeable and keeps to himself, but he notices everything happening around him.

After his crush rejects his offer, Hachiman becomes an antisocial guy who doesn’t believe in making friends and falling in love. But after he is forced to enroll in Volunteer Service Club with the prettiest girl in the class, Yukino Yukinoshita, his view of life slowly starts to change.

3 Kaguya-sama – Love is War

Kaguya-sama: Love is War is a unique combination of psychology and romance genre. The third season of the series was released in 2022, and the show has won several awards in multiple categories, including the best comedy and best girl. So, you can well anticipate its popularity among rom-com fans.

As the name of the series suggests, the main protagonists fall in love with each other, but their pride and dignity don’t allow them to confess their feelings first, turning their love into war. Therefore, they put each other in such conditions that the other feels trapped, and they at least have to show affection for the other.

2 Kakegurui

Definitely one of the best anime shows that match the theme of Classroom of the Elite. You might even like this series more than the latter, given its storyline and plot twists. Kakegurui is based on gambling that takes place in the school, where the students are taught manipulative skills, and money is considered a status symbol.

Just like Classroom of the Elite, the students in Hyakkaou Private Academy are prepared for the real world instead of just focusing on academics. Therefore, the school teaches like a regular institution in the daytime and turns into a gambling den at night where the students indulge in bets. The main protagonist of the series, Yumeko Jabami, becomes the gambling queen because of her exceptional skills.

1 Assassination Classroom

No doubt, Classroom of the Elite is a great show, but Assassination Classroom is at the pinnacle when it comes to school-related anime series. The basic theme of both shows remains somewhat similar. The students are divided according to their scores, and those who perform the worst are sent to another school building, away from the main campus. But, there’s a lot more to the story.

The students of Class 3-E don’t just have to compete with other classes but are tasked with a crucial mission to eliminate their class teacher, Koro-sensei. He is not an ordinary teacher, as he beholds supernatural powers. Koro-sensei is known to have destroyed 70% moon, and if the students fail to kill him before the year ends, he will turn the earth into ruins.
